Our Boat

1983 Hunter 34
We bought the boat in January 2017. We had spent one season on a 25.5 Hunter and knew right away that we were going to have to go bigger! We couldn't stand up in the cabin, which made it a little claustrophobic-y. See, our idea is to travel. To learn to sail and become confident travelling at our own pace, in no hurry, exploring Nova Scotia and eventually beyond.
Our boat was in rough shape when we bought it, and we knew it was going to need a lot of work. Knowing very little about boats, we were up for the challenge!

It had been out of the water for about three years and was in desperate need of a make-over. So began the great refit. We started with the demolition, tearing out the cabin sole, hoses, wiring, settees, you name it, and then we slowly started building it back. We had to replace the holding tank, hot water heater, fix the compression post, among many other things, and we sanded, epoxied, polyurethaned, and painted.

Our Hunter 34 weighs in at about 13,000 pounds, has a beam of just over 11 feet, and a draft of 5.5 feet. There's plenty of room on board with a v-berth, aft cabin and spacious saloon, with one head and a galley with a gimbaled stove.
It's equipped with an inboard Yanmar Diesel engine which has a fuel tank of 25 gallons. Total water storage works out to be 65 gallons. The total sail area is 566.89 ft2 with a SA/D of 17.54.
After a long winter, we finally got the boat ready enough to go back in the water. Mainly because "Crane Day" was fast approaching, so we didn't have much choice but to haul ass and get it done! Right now we're finishing up a few more projects to get ready for the first sail, and can't wait to spend the summer exploring Nova Scotia!
